Inspired by Paint.NET, Pinta is another open-source program for Linux users with features similar to those of Microsoft Paint software. It is not limited to Linux; Pinta is a cross-platform program that can be installed on Windows, FreeBSD, and macOS.
This bitmap image drawing tool is very straightforward and also offers drawing tools, image filters, and color adjustment tools but fewer features as compared to GIMP. However, GIMP is a little complicated for new users, whereas this one is easy and focuses on usability, which can be seen in its offerings. Such as unlimited undo history, multiple language support, flexible toolbar arrangement, including floating as windows or docking around the image edge, and support for image layers.
Steps to install Pinta on Ubuntu 24.04 or 22.04 LTS
There are three ways to install Pinta on Ubuntu: One uses the APT package manager via the standard repository, and the others use Snap and Flatpak. Here we will show you all of them.
1. Update Ubuntu 24.04 or 22.04
Start the tutorial by running the system update command on your Ubuntu 24.04 or 22.04 Linux. It will rebuild the APT package index cache and install if any update is available.
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade

2. Open Ubuntu Software Center
You will have an Ubuntu software icon on the Ubuntu Dock. If not, you can search for it in the Applications. Open it and click on the search icon. After that, type pinta, as its icon appears. Select the second one, and click on the Install button. The system will ask for your user password. Type that and hit the Enter key.
3. Get Pinta using Snap
If you are familiar with the command line, open your Ubuntu 24.04 or 22.04 terminal and use the universal package manager SNAP to install Pinta’s latest version.
sudo snap install pinta

4. Install Pinta on Ubuntu 24.04 or 22.04
Another method to install this open-source paint program on Ubuntu is using the default system package manager called APT. However, the one drawback of this easy method is that the version of Pinta available through the default system repository of Ubuntu will not be the latest one. Hence, if you are comfortable with that, use the given command:
sudo apt install pinta

5. Use Flatpak to install Pinta
Like Snap, Flatpak is a universal package manager that can install the latest version of this Linux Paint application.
Unlike Snap, Flatpak is not Ubuntu’s part by default; however, the good thing is we can get it easily using the APT and default system repository. Here are the commands to follow:
sudo apt install flatpaksudo flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepoReboot your system
rebootInstall the Pinta:
flatpak install flathub com.github.PintaProject.Pinta
6. Launch this Paint alternative app
Once the installation is completed, go to Show Applications and search for Pinta. As its icon appears, click to run the program.
7. How to update
Here, we have shown three methods for installing Pinta. Hence, the method you use to update the program will depend on it. We are showing commands for all of them; use the one accordingly.
For SNAP or GUI users:
sudo snap refresh pintaFor APT users:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgradeFor Flatpak users:

8. Uninstall or Remove Pinta from Ubuntu 24.04 or 22.04
This program is excellent and easy to use, especially for beginners and those who want Desktop software to start drawing or painting. Nevertheless, uninstallation is also pretty easy if you think Pinta is not your cup of tea and don’t require it anymore. Go for the commands using your installation method.
For GUI or SNAP users:
GUI users can go on Ubuntu Software => search for Pinta => open it and click the bin icon to remove it. Whereas the SNAP users need to open the command terminal and run the given command:
sudo snap remove pintaFor APT users:
sudo apt autoremove --purge pintaFor Flatpak users:
flatpak remove com.github.PintaProject.Pinta

can only get german version of Pinta. where is English version
Although by default the APT will install the ENglish version, however, if you have the German language on Pinta then change it from the Settings of it.
