How to install ZOOM client on Debian 11 Bullseye Linux

Zoom is a popular video conferencing software available for multiple operating systems including Linux. Here we learn the simplest way to install Zoom client on Debian 11 Bullseye Linux.

Zoom as a conferencing software can be used to perform telephone and video conferences. The basic functions of Zoom can be used free of charge and registration is not absolutely necessary. Zoom is available both as a program for the computer and as an app for all Android and iOS devices.

Even if the use of Zoom is basically free of charge, not all functions of the program are available to you in the basic free version. Not only is the number of participants in a conference limited to 100 people, but also its duration. If there are more than two people, the maximum conversation limit will be up to 40 minutes.


Steps to install Zoom Meeting on Debian 11 Bullseye Linux

1. Open Terminal & Run system update

On your Debian 11 or 10 Linux, go to Application launcher and run Terminal app. Once it opened, run the system update command:

sudo apt update


2. Download the Zoom Meeting Linux app

The packages to install Zoon is not available in the Debian 11 or 10 base repository, therefore we need to download the .deb file of this program manually. Well, it is not a difficult task at all, simply run the below command and you will have it.



3. Command to install Zoom on Debian 11 or 10

We already have the file, now. Next, use either the APT package manager or the DPKG tool for the installation of Zoom Meeting Client using the terminal. Well, here we will use the APT because it also resolves and configures, in case, any extra packages are required by the ZOOM to get installed.

sudo apt install ./zoom_amd64.deb

When it asks to Restart services, select Yes and hit the Enter key.


4. Launch Zoom Linux client

Either on your command terminal type- zoom & or go to Application launcher and search for this video-conferencing application. And when its icon appears, click to run the same.

Uninstall Zoom from Debian

Well, you may not require this online meeting application after a couple of usages. In that case, there is also a single command that will completely remove this application from your Linux system.

sudo apt remove zoom
